Course & Workshop Descriptions

SALSA BEGINNER LEVEL 1
A progressive course focusing on solidifying the basics of Salsa dancing.   Musicality, timing, rhythm, leading and following are the core essentials covered in the course.  At this early stage you will learn how to string a group of simple steps together to look proficient on the dance floor.  Our specific dance exercises and constant partner rotation will help develop intrinsic leading and following skills that allow you to be danceable with ANY partner, meet new people and have fun while doing it!  Basic turns, Cross Body Lead and an introduction to Open Shines* are taught at this level.

SALSA BEGINNER (LEVELS 2 & 3)
Prerequisite :Beginner 1 or assessment.  While strengthening what you have learned in Beginner 1, we start you learning slightly longer phrases of Salsa dance steps, all the while referring back to what you first learned.  Here we begin to see the fruits of Level 1, ingraining the necessary tools for great and relaxed dancing.  Again a progressive course that paves with ease the way to intermediate!

SALSA INTERMEDIATE 1, 2 & 3 (LEVELS 4, 5 & 6)
Prerequisite: Beginner Levels or assessment.  These courses are for people who already have a good idea of how to dance Salsa but need help with linking steps together into their own danceable turn patterns.  These levels help develop consistency and fluidity in your dancing all the while continuing to concentrate on the detail of hand connection and the importance of proper leading and following techniques.  New and more intermediate turn patterns and open shines* are taught.

SALSA INTERMEDIATE (LEVEL 7) & ADVANCED  1, 2 & 3
Prerequisite: Intermediate 4-6 or assessment.  These levels are for the Salsa club frequenters and are for those looking to increase the variety and repertoire of their Salsa dance steps.  Multiple spin/turn techniques for both partners are covered thoroughly.  More advanced and longer turn patterns are taught, all the while learning to spin better and add style to your dancing!

SALSA ADVANCED TURN PATTERNS & SHINES
Prerequisite: advanced level or assessment:  This course is for the experienced dancer who is looking to challenge themselves with new material, and also for the performer in all of us who is dying to get out.  Longer turn patterns and funky open shines* are taught at a fast pace.

LADIES SALSA STYLING FUNDAMENTALS
Add elegance, style and sexiness to your dancing!  Incorporate femininity with fancy arm and hand styling; add hip, shoulder, and fluid body movement to your solo footwork or partner dancing.   Emphasis is placed on finding your own individual style through a variety of confidence-building exercises in a women-only environment.  Tricks, flicks, waves, pumps, pulses and flair are in abundance in this class. Bring your attitude with you!

*Open Shines description: Term coined in New York Style Salsa; solo salsa footwork used to increase musicality, timing, co-ordination and also to enhance partner dancing!  Taught in short routines for ease of recall.

CLUB-STYLE CHA CHA
Tired of sitting out when the DJ plays those Cha Cha songs?  Here's your chance to get "ChaChafied"!  This course is designed to get you out on the dancefloor in that Latin nightclub busting those moves!  Using International Cha Cha technique and timing,  you'll receive the necessary sharpness and precision in your movement that makes Cha Cha such a dynamic rhythm.  The course then concentrates on providing a variety of different sequences that have a fun but funky style to them.  These Cha Cha turn patterns with a Salsa flavour will have you looking hot and stylish on the dancefloor!

DRILLS CLASS: SPINS, TECHNIQUE & CONDITIONING
Drills (repetitive movement) will be used in this class to build on our basic steps.  It is open to all levels.  You will work on core body movement, feet, arms and spins in order to increase our strength and fluidity in our dance moves.

CHA, CHA, MERENGUE, BACHATA & OLD-SCHOOL SALSA WORKSHOPS
Learn how to dance these Cuban, Domincan, and Colombian dances respectively in our workshop environments.  Adding these dances to your repertoire along with Salsa could essentially mean never having to sit one out!  Please check out workshop info.
